It takes a LOT to impress me. I’m the sort of person that appreciates everything but I have extraordinarily high standards for myself and the things that I enjoy. For anything to be memorable it must be brilliant and different. I think the key word is different and specially when it comes to food, I’m perpetually hunting for this ” brilliantly different”. A chance meeting at an event with old school friends led to a superbly entertaining not to mention delicious dinner, and it is at this very dinner that I found my brilliantly different. My first wow meal of…

I use to say Sunday is God’s day and it should be spent sleeping lazing and basically being a fart. While I still think this to some extent, of late my Sundays are reserved for cooking and experimenting. Dad and I spend a lot of Sundays where I eagerly try out new recipes and he patiently tells me I’m the laziest cook alive because I hate the mise en place. Oh well, it’s still fun making a mess and exploring flavours and textures. While I’m comfortable with a wok, making pasta or even curries, I’ve never really baked. I’ve never…

It isn’t everyday that you get to meet famous chefs who’s cook books you’ve salivated over or who’s tv shows you’ve watched eagerly or who’s recipes you constantly source on youtube. So when the effervescent Rachel Allen popped into town for a charity dinner, I jumped at the chance to meet her. Having sampled some of her recipes on a week long menu curated by The Sassy Spoon ( they were hosting Rachel and her charity dinner) I thought what better way to showcase her food by sharing one of her recipes that I love. The food is normally the…

You know how some restaurants seem to have an aura of awesomeness surrounding them, making you slightly fascinated with the idea of dining there, and then everyone who’s ever eaten there has had fabulous meals makes, making it seem like it’s the culinary Narnia. Yes, that for me was Masala Library, a 4 month old restaurant who has dazzled the dining community in Mumbai, converting many fans and even grudgingly earning the respect of the not so greatly satisfied. Masala Library is what is best described as a contemporary Indian dining restaurant where it takes traditional dishes and gives them…

I’ve spent a LOT of time this past year sampling new places and frequenting old favourites. I find most often it’s very difficult to find a restaurant that will give you a stellar meal.  There are always hits and misses in every meal but I’ve come to realize that some dishes are quite memorable and it’s only fair I share my culinary treasures with you. So this is dedicate to my top finds of 2013. I’d like to stress here that these are just some of the dishes I personally find memorable or note worthy, my list includes much more…

The last time I had a really memorable meal was at Salt Water Café in Bandra. It was memorable for so many reasons. I was dining with an old college friend, coincidently the first person I ever spoke to in college, a fantabulous long lazy lunch that stretched into four glorious hours of eating  and also because we picked a lovely spot on their terrace later to enjoy our dessert.  In fact everytime I’ve dined at Salt Water Café since, I think of him and the hours spent indulging and enjoying food. For me, the best dining companion is one…

Until recently the German Bakery was an integral part of Pune city. A prominent cafe and local hot spot for kids and adults alike, German Bakery was a very popular choice. Unfortunately, in 2010 it was the target of a heinous bomblast that shook the city and not only drew a cloud of doom  over the city but destroyed a very happy place which most people loved. Since then of course there have been dozens of cafes and coffee shops and it seemed like the city has enough to offer its locals and even touristy visitors. However those who’ve spent time…

If you’re a regular patron of the Woodside Inn at Colaba this festival is legendary. You wait all year and every year, to  make a minimum of 3 – 4 visit so you can sample all the burgers!  This year the enthusiasm was the same if not more but the experience greatly different. I decided to wait and see other people’s reaction before I burgered out and sadly everyone came back saying this year was a letdown.  The chatter on twitter was mixed, people who are relatively new to this concept thought it brilliant but the wise old regulars who’ve…

When old friends meet up it’s always fun, but when they spend hours indulging their palates and getting lost in a culinary wonderland, it’s magnificent! A lunch date set at bandra’s Salt Water Cafe, and this was my first time eating there (though I honestly don’t know why I haven’t been here before). He seems to be a regular at this haunt so I decide to put my taste buds into his very capable hands and leave the ordering up to him. I just sit back wait for my food and soak in (what’s slowly growing on me) Salt Water…
