In my opinion, one of the best weekend getaways from Mumbai is to it’s younger sibling Pune. The city is wonderful and has much to offer despite turning into a mini Mumbai. I have friends there so it’s always fun to visit but even if I didn’t, I’d still go because there is enough to keep me occupied. This month was full of long weekends and my sister and I finally ( with grave difficulty ) managed to plan a weekend away together, something we haven’t done in a while. I was generously given a gift certificate which was basically…

I haven’t been to Pune in ages and this weekend was a breath of fresh air. I popped into the city for a quick weekend getaway with my sister and for the most part lounged around in our gorgeous hotel the Hyatt Regency Pune. You can’t blame us, it’s ferociously hot outside with the temperature crawling up to 40 degrees so besides a very successful shopping trip and the mall next door, we pretty much ate at the hotel and stayed indoors like little princesses. Since I hadn’t been to Pune in ages, a city I’m extremely familiar with and…

I love Pune for so many reasons. It’s a fun city, great weather and I’ve got lots of friends and wonderful readers here who are always happy to meet. The thing I like most about the city is that it’s got some great places to eat at. Tiny lil nooks, oldie goldie favourites and some new fancy pants places as well. There’s always something for everyone. A bit like Mumbai in that respect, but far lighter on my wallet. While I enjoy revisiting old favourites, it’s always great to explore and see what’s new. On a recent trip there, I…

While a lot of travelers are happy to rough it out and make the most of cheap accommodations,( I do it as often as I can as well my bank balance doesn’t always allow for extravagance) I wait for the time when I get to spoil myself and check into a big fancy hotel. If I could I’d probably live in a hotel and never tire of it. I come to Pune so often for work and pleasure and despite the several hotel options, I’ve never stayed in one. This time I decided to take a walk on the wild…

My dining woes are not just restricted to Mumbai but I find have extended to Pune as well. Off late even old favourites in the city have started to disappoint and I find myself wondering when I’m going to enjoy my meal the next time I eat out. I’m not really looking for fancy presentation or Michelin star food, just grub that tastes good and I feel I got my money’s worth. I’ve been visiting the city quite often this month but had nothing to really write about till I stumbled upon this 3 week old fledging restaurant called Habibi…

I love Pune city and more than the city I’m head over heels in love with all their culinary offerings. From some fancy pants restaurants to quirky little hole in the wall cafes and even road side snack shacks have all impressed me and left me extremely satisfied. While I’m starting to tire of Mumbai’s restaurants and feel underwhelmed at most, I’m yet to come across a restaurant in Pune that doesn’t impress me. Oh wait a minute. Did I talk too soon ? I might have because this is exactly what I thought while walking into Dario’s and I…

Bombay is buzzing with food bloggers, self made critics and zomato review writers. It’s been around for a while but in the last year or so food has become extremely trendy. We’ve got blogger associations, college students writing, even well known and respected food critics have their personal blogs ( thanks to editors and their nasty word count) and instagram accounts to share all their culinary adventures. It’s an exciting time to be involved in food. I’m familiar with my fellow food enthusiasts in Mumbai but this was the first time I interacted with bloggers and food fanatics in Pune.…

This Pune trip like most usually turn out to be, was wonderfully hectic. With a cheese festival, judging contests and interviewing some lovely people for work, I managed to squeeze in a lazy lunch. After a while I enjoyed a nice lazy lunch with lovely company and tasty food. Soy is a restaurant I hadn’t heard of before but seems to be quite popular. Located on Bund Garden Road this restaurant with friendly staff and red themed decor seems like a relaxed place to dine. My lung fung soup filled with prawn was lovely but the real surprise was the…

If you thought Pune is a little town studded with just kathi roll vendors and misal pao everywhere you are sadly mistaken. There is a LOT this city offers culinary wise but this little nook I recently discovered takes it to a whole new level.Introducing La Bouchee D’or Patissierie, Pune first authentic French Bakery. Or so they tell me. I haven’t been to France so I can’t really judge. It’s an adorable bakery set inside Gera Plaza and has a comfy outdoor seating arrangement (the bakery is too small inside) and beautifully displayed treats. They have two massive jars filled with…

Until recently the German Bakery was an integral part of Pune city. A prominent cafe and local hot spot for kids and adults alike, German Bakery was a very popular choice. Unfortunately, in 2010 it was the target of a heinous bomblast that shook the city and not only drew a cloud of doom  over the city but destroyed a very happy place which most people loved. Since then of course there have been dozens of cafes and coffee shops and it seemed like the city has enough to offer its locals and even touristy visitors. However those who’ve spent time…
