In my opinion, one of the best weekend getaways from Mumbai is to it’s younger sibling Pune. The city is wonderful and has much to offer despite turning into a mini Mumbai. I have friends there so it’s always fun to visit but even if I didn’t, I’d still go because there is enough to keep me occupied. This month was full of long weekends and my sister and I finally ( with grave difficulty ) managed to plan a weekend away together, something we haven’t done in a while. I was generously given a gift certificate which was basically…

It isn’t everyday that you eat a five course meal specially in Mumbai but when you get the opportunity to do so, it’s one you should cherish. There is a lot of mediocre food in the city and a lot of good food as well. What’s rare is a stellar meal and thanks to superstar chef Vineet Bhatia, you can enjoy a great one at his restaurant Ziya at The Oberoi Hotel at Nariman Point. A meal here is an experience as all meals should be and with simple classy decor and the dramatic backdrop of the Arabian Sea, Ziya…

Hyderabad to me will always be a royal city. Not just because of its incredible history and culture or that it was home to the Nizams but mostly because it is one tremendously diverse city when it comes to local food. To the world Hyderabad is just about its biryani but the more I visit this city, the better I understand what it has to offer. It’s a city where I am unable to sum up everything it has to offer and each trip I’m discovering more and more. I recently spent a few days and ate more than my…

I’m not a baker, in fact my antics in the kitchen are more for my own personal pleasure and relaxation than anything else. I’m terrified when people ask me to cook for them and when they insist I do retarded things like cupcakes it’s border line traumatic. When Mahindra Rise approached me to take part in the #SeedTheRiseChallenge which is this extremely interesting activity that helps raise awareness about the plight of our Indian farmer and the charity work they’re doing, it was hard to say no. My challenge was simple. To incorporate an ingredient produced locally by our farmers and…

If I’m being completely honest, I would have to say that the Courtyard By Marriott City Centre in Pune is probably my favourite hotel in the city. While its sibling the J W Marriott is sprawling and everyone else’s favourite, I find a sense of comfort, top notch service and ease at this hotel for a really affordable price. I visited the hotel last year in May and found everything pleasant except maybe the food. While I found it to be good food, I didn’t think it was extraordinary or let’s just say I wasn’t blown away and my thoughts…

I’m embarrassed to admit it, but there was a time when I thought buffets were the best deals in town. All you can eat for a set price – Hello affordable meals !! I would go crazy, I mean just dog gone nuts and try to eat everything there was even if I didn’t particularly want to. I mean it’s a buffet, there are rules – YOU EAT IT ALL AND THEN SOME! Then I grew older, my taste buds evolved, I got exposed to different things, got a little more culinary educated and realized it’s a waste of money…

Most of the time I’m operating at full speed. There are days when I can’t remember what I did the night before and I’m constantly bouncing about the place working on a theme or project or frantically trying to meet all my writing deadlines. It might sound strange but nothing relaxes me more than experimenting in the kitchen and while the entire month of February was insanely hectic, this week I decided to unwind a wee bit and get back to pottering about in the kitchen and creating some new recipes. I source a lot from Pinterest and I double check…

Every year I like to hit rewind and pick out some of my favourite dishes of the year. They’re in no particular order and most of the time are the oddest choices. I enjoy doing it and it’s a great way to wrap up the year. This year however, I felt a bit underwhelmed by everything. I made a conscious choice to not eat out or talk about things unless I felt they were delicious. I wanted to avoid anything mediocre ( my version of average though someone else might love or hate it ) and focus on the WOW…

I had spent more than two weeks travelling all over Portugal on my food tour and was now relaxing in Lisbon. I decided to extend my stay and ended up doing another 5 nights in Lisbon by myself. I think this is possibly the best decision I made because the time I spent on my own, eating, exploring and discovering is something I will treasure more than anything else. The main agenda for my time in Lisbon was to just see things at my own pace and eat at some great restaurants. Of course I furiously googled and read various…

There are times when I think ‘ someone pinch me I must be dreaming’ and on this recent Portuguese adventure, I must have thought this at least a hundred times. Everything about this country is beautiful, from their stunning beaches, quaint towns, bustling cities to wonderfully warm people. However I think the real treasure is their food. I went into this trip with a really open mind, I refused to read up too much about the cuisine because I find sometimes I make up my mind or have some sort of pre-conceived ideas about it so this time I decided…
