I’ve started what I call my breakfast series on the blog recently and uptill now it only had a roundup of places I’ve visited for their breakfast spread. This is my first attempt at sharing a breakfast recipe. I’m trying my hardest to think of simple and innovative ideas for breakfast that are easy to make, don’t need much prep ( since I’m always in a daze in the morning ) and most importantly are slightly healthy. I’m trying my hardest to stay away from anything that has too much butter, sugar or any flour at all. It’s not easy…

One of the most exciting meals when I travel is breakfast. When I’m at home it’s nothing fancy maybe the odd egg or toast but when I travel is when I really indulge and do justice to a breakfast buffet. I was recently asked to meet someone over a breakfast meeting and while it sounded very tempting, the reality of waking up and getting ready so I could reach on time was far from delightful. To make matters worse my meeting was scheduled at the other end of where I live, temptingly close to the international airport ! If you…

In my opinion, one of the best weekend getaways from Mumbai is to it’s younger sibling Pune. The city is wonderful and has much to offer despite turning into a mini Mumbai. I have friends there so it’s always fun to visit but even if I didn’t, I’d still go because there is enough to keep me occupied. This month was full of long weekends and my sister and I finally ( with grave difficulty ) managed to plan a weekend away together, something we haven’t done in a while. I was generously given a gift certificate which was basically…

The restaurant business in Mumbai, is fast paced, competitive, expensive and in my opinion slightly boring. Everyone is opening the same style restaurants with ” world cuisine”, almost every menu is the same format of pizza, pasta, burger, sandwich and the occasional steak or roast chicken, and most of them are just about average taste wise. The blog was created because eating out was fun and discovering new foods was new to me. I feel like I’ve eaten it all and then some. Cities like Bangalore and Delhi seem to be racing ahead and trying new things. Mumbai is anything…

If you know me well, you know that I am my father’s daughter. I’m exactly like him in more ways than one. We have the same likes and dislikes, the same quirks and the same temperament. So when daddy and I get to spend some quality time together it’s always nice but when we get to spend that time over some good food and drink it’s even better! Vicinia meaning neighbourhood joint or meeting place in Italian or Latin is a relatively new restaurant that has replaced the old Subway outlet at Kemps Corner. It’s just down the road from…

Everyone deserves a second chance. Unfortunately, I’m one of the few people than doesn’t believe in second chances. However, restaurants usually should  be given second third and even fourth chances at times. My last trip to Bandra latest craze Imbiss was underwhelming and personally I thought highly over rated. I hear people wax such lyricals about this place and its ‘ awesome meats’ that frankly I had a bad feeling I was going with just too high an expectation. I had a below average meal and felt I’d never go back. Recently K was in town and after eating at…

Food is so much more than eating to kill your hunger. It’s about celebrating. Whenever there is a happy occasion like a birthday or a new job its always celebrated with a hearty meal. The best meals are of course the celebratory kind where you tend to indulge more than you normally do and this week K and I were in a very celebratory mood and indulge we most certainly did at none other than Hakkasan ! I’ve had their dim sum menu before so I’m familiar with their brilliance but it was K’s first time at the restaurant and…

Udwada is a sleepy town in Gujarat and one of the most sacred places in the world for any Parsi- Irani Zoroastrian. It is the home of our beloved Iran Shah, which houses the holy fire which the Zoroastrians brought with them   when they escaped Iran centuries ago. Trips to Udwada are more of religious pilgrimages and people usually do day trips or stay the night. It’s a small town with barely anything to do and for most city slickers a day is probably all they can tolerate. It’s hot like a furnace with faint cool sea breeze teasing you;…

This was a small article I had written for a community paper called Parsi Times. It was world egg day when I wrote this ( 12th October).Thought I’d share it on the blog. Here goes 🙂Who came first- the chicken or the egg? For most Parsi folks it’s definitely the egg. High in its nutrient values but even higher in taste value, the egg is extremely important to the Parsi community.  Used in most rituals the egg is a big part of our culture. Its prominent in certain wedding and pre wedding rituals and I’m not talking about its prominance…
