Summer’s here ! Well atleast for us folks in India. The heat is intense and thanks to global warming, it’s about to get a hotter. Schools are closed for a good two months and even if you’re not planning your vacation time around kids schedule, it’s still a great idea to take a break and jet off somewhere else. Most people get lazy and tend to flock to Goa which personally if you ask me is great as a destination but a tiny bit over rated. I decided to give you a quick glance at a few places I think…

One of the most exciting meals when I travel is breakfast. When I’m at home it’s nothing fancy maybe the odd egg or toast but when I travel is when I really indulge and do justice to a breakfast buffet. I was recently asked to meet someone over a breakfast meeting and while it sounded very tempting, the reality of waking up and getting ready so I could reach on time was far from delightful. To make matters worse my meeting was scheduled at the other end of where I live, temptingly close to the international airport ! If you…

I’ve been a big fan of Restaurant Week India which to me is one of the most interesting endeavours in the food industry in India. This five year old property encourages people to dine at some of the best restaurants in the city and enjoy a fixed coursed meal at a fixed ( much more affordable ) price. So you can pick a gorgeous restaurant in a 5 star hotel and end up paying half of what you would on a normal day. I think its absolutely genius and most importantly wonderful because it really encourages folks to ditch the…

In my opinion, one of the best weekend getaways from Mumbai is to it’s younger sibling Pune. The city is wonderful and has much to offer despite turning into a mini Mumbai. I have friends there so it’s always fun to visit but even if I didn’t, I’d still go because there is enough to keep me occupied. This month was full of long weekends and my sister and I finally ( with grave difficulty ) managed to plan a weekend away together, something we haven’t done in a while. I was generously given a gift certificate which was basically…

I tend to fall in love with almost every place I visit and always yearn to go back. Cities have their own vibe but if I’m being completely honest, one of my happiest places in the world is when I’m sitting on the last bench in an open jeep in the middle of a jungle eagerly waiting to come across any, many and all the jungle creatures. If you were to ask me what kind of holiday you should take, I will always advocate a safari vacation and preferably one in the heart of Madhya Pradesh in India. India has…

I haven’t been to Pune in ages and this weekend was a breath of fresh air. I popped into the city for a quick weekend getaway with my sister and for the most part lounged around in our gorgeous hotel the Hyatt Regency Pune. You can’t blame us, it’s ferociously hot outside with the temperature crawling up to 40 degrees so besides a very successful shopping trip and the mall next door, we pretty much ate at the hotel and stayed indoors like little princesses. Since I hadn’t been to Pune in ages, a city I’m extremely familiar with and…

People tend to grossly under estimate the city of Hyderabad when it comes to food. Maybe it’s not really people and it’s just me. I knew this city has it’s rich royal history but only after numerous visits did I realise the nobility extends towards their food as well. Hyderabad or the city of pearls is a food lovers paradise. I’ve discovered sweets, biryanis , dosas and a host of dishes that are exciting and worth experimenting with. I notice that a lot of traditional recipes ask for a host of ingredients, you need a good amount of patience and…

It isn’t everyday that you eat a five course meal specially in Mumbai but when you get the opportunity to do so, it’s one you should cherish. There is a lot of mediocre food in the city and a lot of good food as well. What’s rare is a stellar meal and thanks to superstar chef Vineet Bhatia, you can enjoy a great one at his restaurant Ziya at The Oberoi Hotel at Nariman Point. A meal here is an experience as all meals should be and with simple classy decor and the dramatic backdrop of the Arabian Sea, Ziya…

When people ask me about bucket lists and my top places to visit I find it strange. The world is vast with so many different places to explore and cultures to understand, not to mention so many different types of food to eat how is one suppose to just pick a bunch of favourites? More than anything there are always different types of experiences to be had and one of the very best kind of experiences is a safari in a jungle. A very special person took me on my very first safari way back in 2010 and it has…

Delhi is a fascinating city. Much like Johannesburg it gets its fair share of bad press and the first thing you think about is safety but if you look beyond there is so much to explore. I grew up in Mumbai and have no family in Delhi which means I never visited as a child ( except for the occasional school trip ). For me, Delhi is an adventure and again a couple of days in the capital isn’t enough to really understand the city. It’s also one of those cities that is completely blessed when it comes to food.…
