I don’t seem to be a very loyal traveler as I’m constantly falling in love with places I visit. People always ask me my ‘ top’ destinations and it’s always such a hard pick because in all honesty the world is beautiful and as clichéd as it might sound, it is just terrible to compare. However there will always be a few places that I seem to love a tad bit more than the others and Portugal as a country is one of them. I spent nearly 3 weeks travelling all over exploring their food and wine and just felt…

These photographs are taken in Portugal’s famous Douro Valley, which is the heart of Port Wine. After a beautiful drive and more stunning landscapes I visited a very well known winery in the region, got a quick tour of how they produce the wines and then was treated to a superb meal over looking the valley.  Then onto a small town called Trancoso which is famous of it’s castle ruins and their small but thriving Jewish population. I managed to do an interesting walk through the old Jewish quarters. The next day I visited a small farm which to me…

When you have the privilege of spending nearly a month travelling all over a country, exploring and discovering all it has to offer, it’s exceedingly difficult to edit your photos. While it’s exciting to write about my experiences I find it hard to not include as many photographs as I’d like. After visiting more than 20 destinations I decided for the very first time on the blog, I’d post a photo diary. These are the first set of pictures in this five part series, I hope you enjoy them and more than anything, I hope they inspire you to jump…

Lisbon is a beautiful city filled with beautiful things and I fell in love with all of them. One of Lisbon’s most exclusive hotels is The Olissippo Lapa Hotel. Located in Lapa, what I believe is the posh neighbourhood of Lisbon, this hotel really feels like a palace. The property is beautiful, the pool looks inviting and the rooms are gorgeous and I could have sworn I was visiting an Emperor. A lesser known fact is that it’s considered one of the best hotels in the city and is even a part of the prestigious Leading Hotels Of The World group. While…

When someone thinks of visiting Portugal, the first thing they map out is their visit to Lisbon. The capitol city is beautiful and a must see but there is plenty more to discover and one of Portugal’s gems is the city of Porto. Lisbon and Porto seem to have this subtle sibling rivalry much like Mumbai and Delhi do but having been to both I can see how gorgeous each one is. Lisbon is a city people make the time to visit but I think if you miss Porto, you’re missing a lot. These are my top reasons why you…

There are times when I think ‘ someone pinch me I must be dreaming’ and on this recent Portuguese adventure, I must have thought this at least a hundred times. Everything about this country is beautiful, from their stunning beaches, quaint towns, bustling cities to wonderfully warm people. However I think the real treasure is their food. I went into this trip with a really open mind, I refused to read up too much about the cuisine because I find sometimes I make up my mind or have some sort of pre-conceived ideas about it so this time I decided…

This is my first time in Portugal and if visiting a new place isn’t exciting enough the sole purpose of this trip is to discover Portuguese food and cuisine. Sometimes I have to pinch my self and remember how lucky and fortunate I am and sometimes I think people think I’m joking when I tell them what I do. ” You write about food ? You’ve come here just to eat ?? Seriously ?? That’s so cool! ” this is the first thing I hear when I reach Lisbon by the immigration officer about to stamp my passport. He’s so…

I’m writing this blog post as my official entry for a 16 day food tour around Portugal conducted by APTECE Portugal  which I came across while reading Nelson Carvalheiro’s blog. For the contest I’m asked to write what food means to me, why it’s my main reason for travelling  and what I should expect from the tour. The first part is tricky. It’s one of those questions you’re not quite sure how to answer.  Seeing as I write about food and travel for a living, I’d have to say it’s an integral part of me. It’s a world I find exciting and…
